General
- The Technology Entrepreneur Center was created in 2000
- 12 courses are offered in Technology Entrepreneurship, Engineering, as well as others
- Four on-site and online certificate programs for education and professional development are offered
- TEC has awarded over 200 professional development certificates to undergraduate and graduate students as well as engineering professionals
- Since the Center’s inception, over 8,000 students have enrolled in courses offered through TEC
Outreach Overview
- TEC administers the annual V. Dale Cozad New Venture Competition and $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Illinois Student Prize for innovation
- In Fall 2010 TEC developed the Innovation Living-Learning Community, which is dedicated to incoming students who are interested in innovation, entrepreneurship and look to create their own ideas and start-ups. It is home to 140 students and includes a Garage, which is a place for collaboration, idea storming and much more
- TEC is working on creating a summer camp in 2012 to foster excitement around math, science, engineering, technology and entrepreneurship at an early age
- TEC began a Women in Innovation (WII) Program highlighting successful women working in technology and innovation
- TEC collaborated with colleagues at the University of Michigan to establish an organization Midwest Engineering Entrepreneurship Network (MEEN) that provides a forum for sharing best practices and methods for overcoming challenges unique to Midwest engineering entrepreneurship centers
